The Ocean Drive section of North Myrtle was the place to be during the Society of Stranders' 2008 edition of Spring Safari, and Paul Craver was all over it. Craver appeared numerous times during the 10-day event to perform some of his most popular songs, and sprinkled some new tunes into the mix as well. On Saturday, April 19, he joined Shaggie Maggie at 2001 Nightclub to treat a "full house" of Carolina Beach Music and shag enthusiasts to hits like "Macon, Memphis and Muscle Shoals," "(I'm Just A) Fool for You," "Emperor of My Baby's Heart" and "We're Gonna Make It," his well-known collaboration with Maggie's Pam Russell. Craver also surprised the audience with his rendition of "It Only Hurts Me When I Cry." Not surprisingly, "Fool for You" and "Emperor of My Baby's Heart" set the tone for the rest of the week with Craver performing both songs for crowds when he dropped by the OD Pavilion the following afternoon and again on the top deck of Pirate's Cove the next weekend. Craver took the stage twice on Friday, April 25, at OD Resort's Spanish Galleon during the traditional KHP/Ripete CD Release Party, then returned to the stage a third time to join other special guests amid a live performance by Mike Taylor and the Holiday Band later that night. Saturday included appearances at the SOS parade along Main Street, a Greensboro Shag Club party at Fat Harold's and the top deck at Pirate's Cove. On Sunday afternoon, Craver and wife Gail took time out to lend their talents - his vocal and her artistic - to the semi-annual Camp Kemo Benefit held at Fat Harold's Beach Club. Proceeds from the auction-entertainment fundraiser are used to send children with cancer to camp each summer. |
